What is the Light Adjustable Lens Plus?

The Light Adjustable Lens Plus (LAL+) builds upon the benefits of the original LAL by providing an extended depth of focus. This advanced IOL features a modified surface curvature that slightly increases central lens power, offering even greater clarity and flexibility.

Unlike traditional intraocular lenses (IOLs), which have fixed focusing power, the Light Adjustable Lens is the only IOL that allows adjustments after surgery. This means you don’t have to make a final decision about your vision correction before your procedure—your eye doctor can refine your vision after surgery to better fit your lifestyle and needs.

Who is a Good Candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens?

If you're looking for a customized visual outcome after cataract surgery, the Light Adjustable Lens could be a great option for you. You may be a good candidate if:

Your vision has been stable for at least a year
You have mild astigmatism
You do not have glaucoma or age-related macular degeneration
You want to reduce your dependence on glasses or contacts
You have realistic expectations about vision correction
You can wear UV-protective glasses during recovery and attend all follow-up appointments

What to Expect During Recovery

Recovery after cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange with the Light Adjustable Lens is similar to other IOL procedures. You’ll need to use prescription eye drops to prevent infection and inflammation and follow your doctor’s guidance on activity restrictions.

However, because the Light Adjustable Lens is light-sensitive, you’ll need to wear special UV-protective glasses to prevent unintended exposure to sunlight. These glasses must be worn both indoors and outdoors until your vision is fully finalized. You may remove them only for sleeping, showering, washing your face, or applying eye drops.

In the weeks following surgery, you’ll have a series of light treatments at Reeves Eye Institute to fine-tune your vision. These quick, 90-second sessions use the Light Delivery Device to adjust your lens to your desired prescription. You’ll typically need one to three treatments, spaced a few days apart, followed by two “lock-in” treatments to finalize your vision.

See the Difference with the Light Adjustable Lens

Once your vision is locked in, you’ll experience the freedom of clear, personalized eyesight. The Light Adjustable Lens can significantly reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contacts, allowing you to enjoy life’s moments with crisp, customized vision.

Imagine reading without reaching for your glasses, traveling with ease, or seeing your loved ones more clearly than ever before. With the Light Adjusable Lens at Reeves Eye Institute, your vision is in your hands—literally.
