Free yourself from the constant frustrations of reading glasses
If you’re 40 or over, you know the routine: To read something, you have to hold it farther away than normal, or reach for reading glasses. This is caused by presbyopia, a condition that is almost universal as we get older. The lens in the eye loses its ability to adjust as we age, resulting in loss of near vision.
Most people adapt to this by using reading glasses or getting bifocals if they wear glasses every day. But now there’s a procedure created specifically to address presbyopia—and reduce or eliminate the hassle of dealing with reading glasses.
It’s called the KAMRA® Inlay. Your ophthalmologist first uses advanced eye-scanning technology to determine if you’re a candidate for the procedure and how it could improve your vision. If you are a candidate, your ophthalmologist then can perform a laser procedure where a special lens is inserted into your eye. (You have the option of having the lens removed later).
The KAMRA® Inlay treatment is an eye procedure that restores near vision and frees you from the constant frustrations of reading glasses. It is ideal for active people looking to no longer depend on reading glasses or contact lenses for their everyday activities. The KAMRA® Inlay:
- Restores everyday vision so you can see text messages, a computer screen and the time on your wrist watch, without the frustration of reading glasses
- Provides a natural range of vision- from near to far-without blurry zones
- Offers a long-term solution that will help you enjoy clear near vision over time
The KAMRA® Inlay is ideal for active people who also need to see close objects, or people whose professions require close work where glasses aren’t always practical. It is important to understand there may be times when additional magnification is needed for small print, to see in dim light, or to perform a near task for an extended period of time.
The Pre-KAMRA Exam
Before Dr. Reeves accepts a patient for the KAMRA® Inlay procedure, we conduct a thorough patient consultation and pre-procedure exam.
During the consultation, we explain the KAMRA® Inlay in full detail with you, answer your questions, and look at your medical history to make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure. We spend as much time with you as you like, and we give you all the information you need to be completely comfortable in making your own personal decision about KAMRA®.
After the consultation, and your decision to move forward, we schedule the pre-operative exam.
We conduct a pre-KAMRA® Inlay exam using a diagnostic instrument called the AcuTarget HD. The AcuTarget HD takes remarkably precise measurements of your eye, and helps the physician determine the exact placement of the KAMRA® Inlay. Measurements are made in microns (there are more than 25,000 microns in an inch). The AcuTarget HD also tests your vision for other factors, and can even be used to diagnose conditions such as dry eyes.
Once the measurements are made and Dr. Reeves has completed a thorough assessment of your eyes and how the KAMRA® Inlay could benefit you, then you’re scheduled for the KAMRA® procedure.
The KAMRA Procedure
How does the KAMRA® Inlay restore near vision?
The KAMRA® Inlay sits in the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the inlay is specially designed to focus the light coming into your eye. Since this focal point can be very small, the inlay doesn’t affect they eye’s ability to focus at other distances. This restores near vision while maintaining your distance vision.
The Ophthalmologist uses a laser to make a small pocket in the upper layers of the cornea, using a cool beam of light. The KAMRA® Inlay is then placed precisely into the incision, which is designed to close without the need for sutures. The procedure only takes a few minutes.
The KAMRA® Inlay is only needed in one eye. Your brain compensates by adjusting to make your vision work for both eyes.
After you have the KAMRA® procedure, noticeable improvement in your near vision can be as soon as the first week, but may take up to a month. Your vision may fluctuate as your eye heals, but you can resume most normal activities the next day after the procedure. Once you eye heals, you enjoy the freedom of not having to worry about having reading glasses wherever you go.
The KAMRA® Inay is designed to help you maintain your near vision, even as your eye continues to change with age.
